Sponsor Spots for a Cause

In Oct 2009 my mom was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma on her face. It was in the corner of where her right eye & nose meet. It was the size of the tip of your ring finger. It had some raised clear edges, nothing discolored & sometimes itched, hurt & bled. My mom never expected to hear this news, she actually went in for another spot on her side which was unrelated. My friend Shannon was the nurse and after the Dr. left the room she asked Shannon about the spot. Shannon immediately told my mom it was skin cancer. The Dr. had overlooked it when she scanned my mom with the special glasses they use. So if you suspect something and the Dr. doesn't say anything, bring it to their attention.

In Nov 2009 she went to a special plastic surgeon who performed Mohs Micrographic Surgery. This has a 95-97% cure rate. My mom did go through a swollen face/nose and some black eyes. She has barely a scar and now she is very conscience of being out in the sun. She has a follow up apt at the end of this month. We are in hopes there are no other spots, but she has noticed some that she is concerned about.

Its something you never really think about until it hits home, so I would like to do my part and help raise awareness for others. With summer in full swing I think this is the best time to do so. The American cancer society estimated that in 2008 there were 8240 fatalities in the US resulting from skin cancer. While skin cancer is very serious and dangerous it is also treatable. If detected early it is almost 100% curable. It is important that people are aware of the signs of skin cancer. What looks like a mole could very well be cancer. Take the time to apply sun screen if you plan on being outdoors for an extended period of time and ask your doctor about any moles or spots you may have questions about.

With that being said, I would like to announce that for $5 you can purchase a sponsor spot (your blog button will be displayed on my blog for the entire month of September) that comes with a Limited Edition skin cancer ribbon Badge from my shop. All proceeds will go to the Skin Cancer Foundation.

It’s great advertisement for your blog, while helping out a great cause. If you don’t want a sponsor spot, you also have the option of buying just the badge. I put up separate listings for these, and they are only 4$. All proceeds will still be donated to the Skin Cancer Foundation.

  6. Thank you Linds for bringing awareness to Skin Cancer and supporting the research. Having all proceeds go 100% to this foundation is very much needed in this area.

Thank you and everyone for your continued support and remember to wear sunscreen outdoors even in your makeup!

Over 1 million people are diagnosed every year w/skin cancer, take precautions now to protect yourself from becoming a statistic, it's not fun.

    luv you ~
