Sponsor Feature- Fine & Feathered

Hi there:) I'm Josie from Fine&Feathered. I'm a twenty something girl who's obsessed with fashion, photography, and just basically any and all pretty things which is what my blog is all about. When I'm not blogging I'm a visual manager for a major retailer and working on my little Etsy Shop.

I've been a fashion addict since I was young, always obsessivly pouring over the latest issues of Harpars Bazaar and Vogue. So back in college I started making jewelry and opened my Etsy shop LittleIndian. This fall I added vintage clothing to the shop as vintage has always been a love of mine. I'm in the process of putting together a photoshoot for the spring collection which is inspired by boyscouts and indians - I can't wait until it all comes together!

My biggest goal for 2011 is learning to sew clothes on my gorgeous new sewing machine that my handsome guy got me for christmas. I'm also resolving to clean the dust off my many old film cameras and take tons of photos this year as well as just plain blogging a whole lot more!

A random little fact about me is that I love feathers and feathered things! I grew up with a countless number of animals including my dearest pet goose, several cockatiels and a pair of wild birds I saved when I was quite young. I particularily love feather earrings and a lovely gold feather bracelet I got as a christmas gift!

You can follow my on my blog, Fine&Feathered, shop my Etsy, catch me lurking on pinterest and follow my quite often silly and always pointless tweets!

Thank you so much for the awesome feature Josie!! Go check out her shop and blog ladies! It's full of amazing fashion!!
xoxo

Sponsor Feature (Campfire Chic) + GIVEAWAY!!!

I'm Kam of Campfire Chic and I am a 24-year-old crafter who enjoys being outdoors. I live in Orange County, California with my Boyfriend, a few cats, and a dog. I enjoy exploring neighboring cities, the little bit of wilderness we have within driving distance, and spending an entire day reading a good book. My desk is always a mess and I am constantly making lists...hopefully that's the sign of a productive life? Either way, I'm thrilled to be on the cusp of 25 and starting another exciting year by sponsoring Pixies and Bears for my third time!

I opened my Etsy shop, Campfire Chic, over the summer and I love it! I've learned so much about being a business owner, how to maximize my crafting time, and about the wonderful blogging community! I love hearing from buyers that they read my blog or follow me on twitter, it's an amazing feeling. My shop is filled with a few different things: cross-stitch and embroidery patterns, embroidery kits, finished pieces, and notebooks! I also tend to carry some craft supplies if I'm able to get my hands on a great deal (my first sale was some great cloth ribbon!). I get excited whenever I find or create something that would be perfect for my shop.

Since this is January, I expect you're ready to hear some of my goals for 2011. Here they are:

**Reach 200 Etsy sales

**Hike Mount Whitney (the highest peak in the lower 48 states)

**Read 10 books

**Continue to support other handmade shops (like Pixies and Bears!)

Feature + GIVEAWAY!!

I am super excited to feature my friend Valerie, she is the queen of all things paper. I can't even express how happy I am to have met so many fun, crafty ladies here on base. I have been really blessed with great, new friendships lately. I love love this feature and hope you do too!! There is even a fantastic giveaway at the end!! Enjoy :)

1. What is your name, tell us a little bit about yourself, and what you do.

My name is Valerie Jordan, I'm 32, a stay at home mom (to a little boy, Benjamin, turning two in January) and paper crafter. I currently live on base here in Minot, ND, my husband is active duty in the Air Force.

I grew up in The Netherlands and moved here to America when I was 18. My mother is American, and my father was Dutch. They met on an airplane, it's such a romantic story: they sat next to each other with the aisle between them, the person in front of her put his seat back too quickly and her coffee spilled all over her. The rest is history.

I graduated from an International American school, so I don't really have a Dutch accent, but I can put one on (sort of like Gold Member from Austin Powers...but more authentic). I used to be able to speak Dutch fluently, but I'm starting to lose it, unfortunately. I can still read and understand it, I just have a hard time searching for words when I'm conversing. I'm trying to teach it to my son, but I don't want to confuse him! After graduating from high school, I attended a community college in California, got two associates in English and Liberal Arts, met my husband, then moved up to Spokane Washington (where we married). I attended Eastern Washington University and have a BA in Visual Communication Design.
I had a lovely childhood in Holland, we had a quaint little woods behind our house. My father (who was Dutch) was always trying to convince us that fairies and gnomes lived in our backyard. He died from a massive heart attack when I was 15, it was sudden and shocking. My mother was an amazing force, and it's because of her that we all made it through.

I have an older brother & a younger sister. Our family is known for being spread out all over the world, my mom is currently living in Berlin, Germany, working as a teacher for 3 year olds. My brother lives in Paris, France, working for Hilton Hotels. My sister lives in Sydney, Australia, working for Boston University's study abroad program.

2. Where can we find you? (Blog, Shop, Facebook)

3. What's your obsession right now?

Paper garlands! I've been crafting like crazy, trying to get ready for Halloween and Sandi's open house.
I am also obsessed with old things, I have a huge collection of rusty skeleton keys! I love that I can hold a piece of history in my hands and imagine that the key I'm holding opens some old forgotten mansion in Provence, France.

4. What is your shop's name and what do you sell there?

My shop name is Valerie Paperie. I sell all sorts of paper items, mostly garlands. I recently discovered gummed kraft packing tape! I think the possibilities with it are endless! I have a few listings for label packs (great for scrapbookers) and envelope seals. My love for kraft paper is all over the shop, I just can't get enough!
I also came up with two things you won't see anywhere else: (at least, they haven't been copied yet, as far as I know) teeny tiny itty bitty thanks tags, and paper ribbon banners.
I am working on a few new items: paper mobiles using vintage papers, and party packs with coordinating decorations- garlands, banners, etc.

5. What is your favorite item in your shop?

That would have to be my new Halloween pinwheel garlands. They are very time consuming, but so worth it!

6. What made you open up an Etsy shop?

I was getting really bored during the day with my little boy. Don't get me wrong, being a mom is great, but I wanted something of my own. It's really become a passion, and I love it when the UPS man drives up with more goodies for me to play with! I love making things for other people.

7. What shop goals do you want to accomplish by the end of the year?

I'd like to list some new things for Christmas and start making my paper mobiles. I plan to try to list a new item every week, if I can! It's the one way I've learned to get new visitors to the shop!

8. Do you have any hidden talents?

I'm double jointed in my right hand, and my right thumb bone is constantly cracking. I can crack an egg with one hand. I make a delicious shepherd's pie. I think my husband is getting sick of it, I make it very often!

9. List 5 goals on your life's to do list

1. Go to Holland with my husband and son, show them were I grew up
2. Raise a happy, healthy boy who is respectful for others and can follow his heart
3. Start my own graphic design business, with a focus on printed items, business cards, stationery, etc. Never have work be "work", love what I do.
4. Save lots of money for retirement so there will be no money worries
5. Learn to speak Dutch again :)

10. Where do you get your inspiration and what keeps you motivated?

I get inspiration from the many blogs that I read. Some of my favorites are: Design Sponge, Just Something I MadeHow about Orange, and Under The Sycamore.
I also get inspired by all the wonderful artists and crafters on Etsy! I love Etsy so much, it's the greatest!
Also, I get inspired by magical things, fairies & gnomes. My father really instilled a sense of wonder about that for me. I have many books all about fairies and gnomes. My favorite is the one I grew up with, by Rien Poortvliet, (also Dutch) it's simply called "Gnomes".

11. If you could only use one crafting supply the rest of your life, what would it be and why?

Paper! There are so many lovely things you can make with a single sheet of paper.

Samantha- GIVEAWAY and Feature

1. Tell us about yourself...

My name is Samantha, I'm almost 22 and I run Indie & Chic from my dorm room. I also maintain a blog that has lots of guest posts and features artists of all kinds. I also do a lot of daily posts about my life and my inspirations.

2. What is your fav. item in your shop?

My favorite item in the shop right now is the daffodil earring posts, they are so cute and tiny. I also love the custom headbands listing, right now I'm doing some custom college gameday headbands for some sorority girls :) so fun! You can find them here.

3. What inspires you from day to day?

Probably online browsing of design blogs and then playing around with new designs. I also get really inspired by new supplies, so usually when I'm in a rut I order new things.

4. Do you have any helpful tips for beginning Etsy sellers or anyone trying to open their own business?

Don't give up or get discouraged. Some months are slow and you may not have many sales, use those times to invest in your business. Take new photos, try new prices, reach out to blogs you follow, just don't sit there and sulk. I also would recommend following and participating sincerly in a few blogs. I sponsored the blog of a girl I had been following for a few months and her readers then approached me about being featured on their blog's. So be sincere and patient.

Most importantly, have fun. If you aren't enjoying what you are doing and selling, your business won't last. It will take you patience and passion to build your business.

Hello Pixies & Bears Readers!
My name is Meg, from the blog Twisted Tree and I am so excited to be apart of Lindsay's very first blog party! I guess for those of you who don't know me I will tell you a little bit about myself...I am a SAHM of 3 beautiful children and married to the most perfect man, I started blogging in December if 2009 and since then I have met so many talented and amazing friends ( just like Lindsay)! Lately I've been in a bit of a creative rut, not picking up my needles in months...I've have been pretty busy these past few months, in the form of a beautiful little girl we call "Toots", as well as a 6 and 8 year old. So, for myself and for those of you reading this post here are some photos and a few inspirational quotes to help inspire us all...

Jill- DIY

Hi, I'm Jill from Creating my way to Success. I feel very lucky to be a part of Lindsay's blog party over here at Pixies and Bears! So first of all - thank you Lindsay! I'm so glad I found your fun blog - and your fantastic talent!!

One of the most fun posts I've done on my blog, was when I had a little help from my daughter's dolls in one of my DIY projects! Well to be honest, they sort of took over - and I must say they did a fantastic job! I never knew they were so good with the machine.....

Just when you thought your kids dolls were safely tucked away in a box somewhere.........

"Quick girls, let's get out of here, I don't want to be stuck in a box any longer! I want to get out and explore! Come on!"

"If we want to go somewhere, wheels would be a good start don't you think?"

"Yeah, nobody uses these old bike training wheels any more, surely we can come up with something..."

"That's a good start!"

"Phew! this is hard work girls!"

"I'll say! but I really think we're starting to get somewhere with this!"

"Let's take a break from all that hammering and drilling for now, time for something a bit more girly!"

"I like this pink fabric!"

"And I like this blue flowery one!"

"Ok, let's get to work girls! I saw a great idea on 'A Spoonful of Sugar' the other day."

"Good team work!"

Here's what we did:

Cut 2 pieces of fabric, approx 57cm x 15cm

Fold right sides together leaving a flap at the top to rest your head on, like this:

Stitch down both sides of both fabrics:

Turn one piece of fabric right side out and push into the other piece:

Pin around the opening and sides of the flap

Then stitch the two pieces together, leaving a gap at the top:

Turn right sides out..

Then push one inside the other like so:

Turn the top neatly under, pin and top stitch across.

Hey presto! You have a nice cosy sleeping bag!

Which also happens to be reversible! So you can color coordinate with your pyjamas each night!

"Oh we're going to have such fun camping once that car's finished! Good work girls!"

"But what happens if it rains?"

"Lets go see if we can find something to help us."

"Mmmm, What about this?"

"Great! A pop up tent that no longer pops up!"

"Don't be such a defeatist!! I'm sure we can come up with something........"

Click here to see what happened next!!

They are a really great advert for team work I have to say! I hope you enjoy reading about their adventures as much as I enjoyed posting!
Party on everyone - thanks Lindsay!!
